"Yellow Music" is a Vietnamese pop genre that emerged during the years of the country's division. In 1975, it was banned as "decadent". Artist-in-residence Nguyễn Thanh Thủy grew up in Vietnam with a variety of musical influences and has researched the significance of "Yellow Music" as a source of identity for the Vietnamese diaspora in her adopted home of Sweden. Together with her ensemble The Six Tones, which combines traditional and experimental approaches to Vietnamese and European musical traditions, she reinterprets Yellow Music songs from the perspective of her own personal history.
